Took my truck in for service/inspection today... asked them to check out some noise and odd braking feel. Sure enough, the front rotors are in pretty rough shape and it looks like they were gripping unevenly (just an educated guess on this one, they said the inside pad was rough, I thought the outside was pretty good and I know I had more dust on one side than the other). So, front brakes must have a full service done.
Now, that’s not so bad. But for some reason GM decided it would be a great idea to use a captive rotor setup. And the ABS sensor is pretty well known for being a casualty in the process unless you really know what you’re doing. Throw in the current weather trends, and this adds up to something I’d rather not do myself. So the dealer gets the job this time. Silver lining is I did know this was coming sooner or later... fwiw...
So what do you reckon this is going to cost me? I do have a rough idea, but that could go out the window if they mess up the ABS sensor on the way past. I have two free internets available. One goes to the nearest to the estimate, the to the nearest to the final cost.
EDIT: we have a winner on the estimated cost. And final cost. $735.

Yep, this is the real Achilles heel of the first gen Colorado. If the rotors are good enough to be turned, you have to do it with an on-vehicle brake lathe.
I’m going to guess $950.

Pads/rotors are being replaced. They figure 3 1/2 hours.
The dealer I bought the truck from replaced the pads but not the rotors. now I know why. Unfortunately that probably killed the new pads faster than it should have... they’ve got about 30,000 km on them. Rotors have 90,ooo.

There is a reason Honda got away from them. But as a 1992 Accord owner I feel your pain, the best suggestion I can give is try and see if they can be re-surfaced. If not and while you are at it, might want to consider wheel bearings depending on miles. But im guessing if its at the dealer, 5 book hours and $250 in parts so about $750

Sounds about right.

Nope. Replaced. They’re figuring 3 1/2 hours and I hope they can deliver on that. The bearings... they’ll see when they get the hubs off. There’s 93,000 km on them. One side of me says they’ll be fine, the other side says that GM would cut costs on that part since everything has to come out for a brake job anyway.
And DINGDINGDING can’t get any closer than dead on, therefore you are the closest to the estimate.

So a little under estimated the parts cost or Dealer hours have gone up. But yeah at that low for miles (little over 50K?) i would not worry too much about it. Now in another 50K miles, depending on how rough of winters you get, I would consider it if the rotors are trashed again.
And nice now i can add it to my collection

Dealer charges ~120/hr iirc. I think you’re probably right on the parts, too, but in USD rather than CAD. $250 US is around $330 CAD right now, +$420 for labour is dead on $750.

Ah ok I was thinking $100 for labor so i was a tad off but was decently off book hours. For me they charged 1hr just to press the Wheel baring out and back in for one side. So i figured the dealer would take awhile to get all the other stuff off and then press it out and put it back together.

My rear brakes ate themselves in 25,000kms. GM decided the slide pins on the SS Cobalts didn’t need grease. So they’d seize up and only apply pressure from the inside.

I wonder if that’s what’s happened here... the front slide pins on the Colorado are kind of a well-known “look out” spot. Coincidentally I’d put on about 30,000km since I first bought the truck, and I know the dealer I bought it from had done a brake service.
